The Oops! Books.

Neurodiversity, without the shame.

The Oops! Books. began with a simple idea: what if talking about neurodiversity could be funny, honest and reassuring — rather than something to be embarrassed about?

For children. For families. For anyone who thinks differently.

The Oops! Books are suitable for:

  • Children and young people
  • Neurodivergent families
  • Parents and carers
  • Schools and SEND departments
  • Libraries
  • Home-educating families
  • Anyone who wants to understand neurodiversity a little better

They are designed to be dipped into, shared, laughed over and talked about.

Because sometimes the best way to start a difficult conversation is with:

"Oh my goodness. I do that too!"

Life can be funny...

Written from lived experience and illustrated by my home-educated autistic daughter, Lily, The Oops! Books. are collections of short, relatable moments that celebrate the wonderfully unexpected ways our brains can work.

The Oops! Books aren't clinical textbooks, and they aren't about trying to make neurodivergent children fit a particular mould.

They're about recognition.

I wanted children, teenagers and adults to be able to pick up one of these books and think:

"Oh. That's me."

I also wanted parents, teachers and other adults to have an easy, accessible way into conversations about neurodiversity.

Accessibility was important from the beginning, so the books use a dyslexia-friendly font and an easy-to-read format, with Lily's illustrations bringing personality, humour and authentic representation to every page.

Made from scratch.

The books have been developed independently, from the first ideas and handwritten notes through writing, editing and design to illustration, formatting, printing and distribution.

It has been a rather steep learning curve — but every part of the process has been worth it.
