Cognitive Biases
Your brain is brilliant, but it is also easily fooled.
We like to think of ourselves as rational thinkers. But our brains are constantly using shortcuts to help us make sense of the world — and sometimes those shortcuts lead us somewhere we'd rather not go.
This workshop explores the fascinating ways our thinking can be influenced without us even noticing.
Participants will explore:
- what cognitive biases are and why we have them
- confirmation bias and why we notice things that support what we already believe
- the bandwagon effect and the power of the crowd
- anchoring and how first impressions can influence our decisions
- how assumptions and expectations shape what we see
- the ways bias can affect judgement, relationships and decision-making
- practical strategies for noticing when our own thinking might be getting in the way
The aim isn't to eliminate bias — that's pretty much impossible. It's to become better at spotting it, questioning our assumptions and making more thoughtful decisions.
Flexible format
Cognitive Biases can be delivered as a standalone workshop or developed into a six-week course, depending on your needs.
Sessions can be delivered online or in person and tailored to the age, experience and interests of your group or organisation.
Who is it for?
Schools, colleges, youth groups, community organisations and other groups interested in developing self-awareness, critical thinking and better decision-making.
Because sometimes the person most likely to fool you is... you.
